A downloadable game for Windows and macOS

In a universe of music,  there are many, many stars, each with their role in the Song. However, one time,  a deep darkness called the Silence  stopped the Song and  came after the stars, trying to consume them. Without the stars, there can be no Song. It is up to you to restore music to the universe by rescuing the stars and fighting back against the Silence.

OK cool but how do I play the game?

Stars will appear from the top of the screen.  Click and drag from one star to the next to create a chain. Only stars of the same colour can be chained, with the exception of wild stars (pale flashing stars) that can  connect to and from a star of any colour. Release your mouse to resolve the chain. When the chain is resolved, all the stars in the chain are rescued and you are given points  based on how many stars were in the chain.

If a star is not rescued by the time it disappears off from the bottom of the screen, it gets turned into darkness called the Silence. The Silence obstructs the screen and any Star which touches it adds to the Silence. You can get rid of some Silence by forming long chains.

What are these colourful star things on the bottom of the screen?

Those are the powerups. Each of them is activated by pressing a different key on the keyboard (A, S, D, F or G) and each has a special effect that makes rescuing stars easier.

  • The bass powerup (red star) freezes all stars on-screen. Other stars can still enter from above.
  • The drums powerup (purple star) rescues all stars immediately. You are awarded points  as  normal, as if all the stars had been connected in a chain.
  • The piano powerup (blue star) activates a shield of notes at the bottom of the screen (or at the Silence level) which protects stars from becoming Silence. Every star that is protected by the shield is immediately rescued and 50 points are awarded.
  • The strings powerup (green star) reduces the number of colours of the stars on the screen. It takes the least common coloured stars and redistributes their colours to be the most common ones.
  • The lead powerup (yellow star) eliminates all Silence currently on screen and turns some stars into wild stars. The amount of  stars that turn into wild stars depends on how much Silence was on-screen. If there was no Silence, then one star is turned into a wild star. If  Silence is  covering most of the screen, then four stars are turned into wild stars.

Once a powerup has been used, it must be charged again by rescuing stars. Rescuing stars of a powerup's colour charges the powerup more quickly.

What is this "fast mode"?

Fast mode is a mode in which the game becomes faster and more difficult. Not only does a lost   star produce more Silence and take away points, but the game becomes faster the more points are obtained. If the normal mode is too easy, this might prove to be a challenge.

NOTE: Fast mode is experimental at this time and may have issues relating to the audio or visual cues.

Tips on how to get high scores?

Always go for longer chains wherever possible.

The amount of points you get for a chain increases  exponentially as the number of stars in that chain increases. For example, two chains of 3 stars will give you 200 points (100 for each) while a single chain of 6 stars gives you 640 points.

You can also use powerups to rescue large amounts of stars.  The drums powerup is good for this as it can rescue stars of different colours. The strings and lead powerups are also useful for this as they  either reduce the number of colours or make stars wild, both of which make it easier to chain.

Since the layout of the stars are the same (there is currently only one level), if you know a series of stars are coming up that are compatible  with the last set, you can use the bass powerup to stop the current set of stars and allow the next set to enter the screen. This can make it easier to create longer chains between the two sets of stars.

If you have less than  3 stars, but one of them is a wild star, you can still form chains. You can also use the piano powerup to protect the stars if you can't rescue them in time.

Install instructions

The process should be similar for Windows and MacOS. Inside the zip folder is an executable or app folder, and clicking on that will start the game. I haven't tested this game on a Mac so I can't say for certain the Mac build will work, but I tried my best to make it compatible.
